Dr. Edward Kim is a Manager of Technical Staff at Cohere, leading a cross-functional team building interfaces for dialogue-centric applications of large language models (LLMs). He is also appointed as an Adjunct Research Professor at the University of Toronto in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, where he guides research at the intersection of materials informatics and LLMs.

Edward’s PhD in Materials Science and Engineering was awarded from MIT, where his work focused on leveraging natural language processing and generative modelling for advanced materials discovery. His research has been featured in outlets including MIT News and The Verge.

Prior to his time at Cohere, Edward has also worked in ML systems for accounting software (Xero), AI for chemicals and materials (Citrine Informatics), and natural language processing for pharmaceuticals (Pfizer).​
