Lord Clement-Jones
The Lord Clement-Jones CBE

Lord Clement-Jones is a prominent figure in UK politics and policy, particularly in the fields of science, technology, and artificial intelligence. Appointed CBE in 1988 for political services and a Liberal Democrat life peer since 1998, he currently serves as the party’s spokesperson for Science, Innovation and Technology in the House of Lords. In 2025, he joined the UK Engagement with Space Committee, further reflecting his commitment to emerging and future-facing policy areas.
He has long been a leading voice on AI governance. In 2017, he chaired the first House of Lords Select Committee on Artificial Intelligence, and in 2023, he initiated and served on the Special Inquiry Select Committee into AI in Weapons Systems. In 2017, he co-founded and continues to Co-Chair the All-Party Parliamentary Group on AI. Internationally, he is a founding member of the OECD Parliamentary Group on AI and previously served as a consultant to the Council of Europe’s Ad-hoc Committee on AI.
Lord Clement-Jones has been an active member of numerous parliamentary committees over the years, including the Communications Committee (2011–15), the Built Environment Committee (2015–16), the Risk Assessment and Planning Committee (2020–21), the Joint Committee on the Draft Online Safety Bill (2021–22) and the Industry and Regulators Committee (2023–25).
In addition to his parliamentary work, he is a Consultant on AI Policy and Regulation at global law firm DLA Piper, where he previously served as London Managing Partner. He is the author of Living with the Algorithm: Servant or Master? AI Governance and Policy for the Future (Unicorn, 2024), which explores the challenges and imperatives of AI governance.
His leadership roles outside Parliament include Chair of the Authors’ Licensing and Collecting Society (from 2025), former Chair of the Trust Alliance Group (2016–25), and former Chair of Council at Queen Mary University of London (2016–25). He is also President of Ambitious about Autism, reflecting his long-standing dedication to social causes.
