Lev Tankelevitch

Lev Tankelevitch is an AI researcher and behavioural scientist at Microsoft Research. His work focuses on understanding the impact of increasingly capable AI systems on cognition and collaborative knowledge work, and designing AI that can protect and augment our thinking.

His research on the metacognitive demands and opportunities of generative AI — along with studies of critical thinking and AI-assisted collaboration among knowledge workers — has informed Microsoft’s Responsible AI work and shaped AI product strategy.

He brings a multidisciplinary background bridging research, product, and governance, including academic research in neuroscience, large-scale behavioural science evaluations at the Behavioural Insights Team, and policy research at the UK Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology.
